Sheppey's Matthew Golding is just 80 minutes from a Twickenham final as Kent U20s cruised to a 58-19 win over Devon in the County Championship Quarter Final played at Canterbury. Youngster, Golding played for 75 minutes of the tie as Kent overpowered a spirited Devon side and contributed directly to two of the tries.
Kent now face a trip to either east Midlands or Yorkshire in the semi final on April 13th with twickenham awaiting the winners. Last year Kent's u20 side also reached the semi final and were leading 17-0 up at Lancashire only to lose, so Golding will be hoping to steer Kent one step further this time around.
Matthew began playing in Sheppey's mini section as an Under 8 and progressed through to a first team call up at the age of 17. This year he has been playing for Sheppey and Winchester University and was recently selected as the University Vice captain for next season. matthew has already represented the County and Under 16 and 18 level and is excited to be within touching distance of the prestigious final, but knows it will be tough. "Whoever we face will be a hard game and Kent are piling up the injuries, " said Matthew, "but we will give it a real good go as these opportunities do not come round too often."
