SHEPPEY WIN WHISTLER TROPHY
On Wednesday night, Club Chairman Neil Golding was presented with the Kent Society of Rugby Football Union Referees Whistlers Trophy by new President, Graham Charters. Sheppey are in the first winners of the modern era of this award and Neil Golding eagerly accepted it on behalf of the Club. Throughout the season Kent refs have judged each club on how they welcomed referees and looked after them and at the end of the season, Sheppey were streets ahead of the rest. Chairman of the KSRFUR, Terry Hall, made tribute at their AGM of how welcoming a club Sheppey is and how it is always a pleasure to go there. Terry hall, a national level referee himself, said that the award is fully deserved.
Neil Golding commented, "We are delighted to be awarded this. The plaque says 'Sheppey RFC - the most welcoming Club in Kent', what a fantastic thing to have said about our club. We do make sure that every ref is well looked after and I thank the bar staff and Director of Rugby, Andy Hosken in particular for their lead on this. Without a ref we have no game so it is vital that they enjoy their experience of coming to Sheppey."
Clearly now the challenge to the Club is to maintain the standard and win it again next year!
