Hopefully those reading this will have had the opportunity to plan some kind of celebration during this holiday season and these uncertain times
As I sat and started to write this message, I looked back through social media for inspiration and one thing that stood out over the last twelve months was this island community’s spirit and drive to reignite grass roots sports, something before the pandemic we all took for granted and something at one stage or another enters our lives.
No matter what shape ball, whether kicked, caught, or struck this island is brimming with proud clubs often driven by dedicated grass roots volunteers. They not only provide a place of fitness but provide places of social gatherings, opportunities for charity fundraising and a chance for a quick catch up with that old school friend. All of this without us directly aware plays a vital roll in our mental health and well being from children right through to our grandparents something that has affected this club and its families over the last year. I’d personally like to pay homage to those volunteers mentioned and those sadly not with us for making this island what it is.
As the door closes on 2021 can I personally thank all our sponsors for your kind support. Can I also express gratitude to our members /supporters and customers for returning to stupple fields and we look forward to seeing you in 2022.
Lastly, to the officers, committee members, match day officials, players and volunteers that give up countless hours for Sheppey RFC your input is priceless within the rugby family.
Be proud of our island and its grass roots clubs.
Wishing everybody a safe and happy Christmas and new year filled with positivity and love.
Yours in sport
Charlie Osmond
