On Sunday 31st January, Tom Varker represented Kent U18s on their tour match to Belgium.

Tom has given us a brief run down of the game, which by all means sounded very even, despite the Belgian team having a few more players than the Kent Squad could handle:

The game was played at Mons, 45 miles from Brussels on a 3G pitch (similar to Minster Colleges all weather ground). When we arrived the pitch was covered in snow but during the warm up the snow quickly vanished.

The Belgian team had a very large squad of 25+ players, where as Kent had only travelled with 17.

I was in the starting line-up and soon after kick off, Kent gave away a penalty and were quickly 3 points down. The rest of the half saw Kent have have most of the posession and territory, Belgium had a couple of rare breaks but they came to nothing.
Kent missed an opportunity to draw level as a penalty kick was pulled wide.
Reece McDermott (ex-Sheppey) came on as a blood sub at the 10 minute mark.

The second half started similar to the first half, most of the half was played between the 10 metre lines.
Kent missed another opportunity to draw level with another missed penalty. Kent started to apply pressure and in the closing stages were camped inside the oppositions 22 but this came to nothing.

Final Score 3 - 0

I played pretty well, scrummaging was good, throwing could of been better but overall, I was pretty pleased with the way I played.
